Front Porch Surprise

After a week of work in Itawamba County, Mississippi, I came home on Friday to find that the beadboard sheathing on the front porch roof was done!!! Steven had recruited a couple of our neighbors (thank you, thank you to Ryan and Craig!) to work on it during the week, and I had no clue whatsoever. Needless to say, I was thrilled and super impressed.

Eeeek!! It looks awesome :)

Over the weekend, Steven and I did a bit of much needed yard cleanup...

Can anyone identify this plant? It is a real nuisance because it spreads its seed all over the back yard, and the seedlings have such hardy roots that we have to dig them out. On this particularly overgrown example along our fence, we're trying an herbicide that you apply to freshly cut branches. Hope that works!
[UPDATE: After some Googling, this looks like maybe paper mulberry or some other mulberry type... Invasive and problematic to allergy sufferers. Just handling the stuff makes me itchy.]

And lastly, some new flowers will always make this girl happy :)

Hope you all have a great week!
